Learn More About Casablanca Galleon Wood Flooring And Other Things To Know When Designing For A New Floor

Casablanca Galleon wood flooring is just one of the many types of flooring being sold in the market. There is a wide variety of flooring as well as different types of structures for the floors and different species of trees that are manufactured to create different pieces of flooring.

One of the things that you should understand is the difference between engineered hardwood flooring and the solid hardwood flooring. The engineered hardwood flooring is a special type of flooring which is consists of two or more parts. The primary parts are the top layer and the core. The top layer is the glued outermost part of the flooring while the core is made up of the hardwood, high density fibers and plywood. The solid hardwood on the other hand, is a solid structure of a tree species. It is the tongue and groove type with quality sanding and refinishing. The solid type is not compatible in all flooring types. It is not good to use if moisture is an issue.

In terms of the advantages, the engineered hardwood is more stable compared with the solid flooring. The engineered hardwood is compatible to any type of sub floor whether it is linoleum, concrete or wood. You can also nail it, glue it or just staple it to keep it secured to the sub floor. Solid flooring on the other hand is selective in terms of sub-floor. It is subjective to moisture so it is preferred to install solid flooring in areas where moisture is not a problem.

The hardwood that is used as flooring has different appearances. This is due to the different ways that the hardwood was sawn in the process. Among these methods are: flat sawn, rotary cut, off-set rotary cut and sliced cut. Flat sawn is also known as plain sawn. The product usually has flat grain, it has gothic effect or vertical grain output, where there is a radial effect. The rotary cut on the other hand, is where the wood is cut by removing the layers of the hardwood with the use of wood lathes. This method creates wilder graining. Off-set rotary cut is the more complex cut wherein the effect has a sliced and grain pattern at the same time. The piece that results in off-set rotary is more expensive compared with the regular rotary cut pieces. Lastly, the sliced method or cut is where the wood is cut normally across the piece. This method results to finer graining of the wood.

Aside from these facts, you can also hear the terms pre-finished and unfinished floorings. These terms are related with the output of the floorings after it is installed. In pre-finished floorings are the pieces after installed are already okay. There is no more need to sand and apply any other things to it because basically, you are already finished with the flooring job. Unfinished floorings on the other hand, still require other applications like sanding the wood and applying finishing touches like urethane to the product. After the last applications, you will still need to wait for a couple of days to let the finishing dry up completely. Between the two, the unfinished floorings have more tedious work compared with the pre-finished floorings.

The next time you buy Casablanca Galleon wood flooring, you will understand it more when they give you specs of an engineered plank which measures 12 to 42 inches, the species is Hickory Pecan and the surface type is hand scraped or distressed. You are now also familiar if you order for an aluminum oxide finish for your pre-finished flooring. And if you are instructed to have the floor glued, nailed or stapled, you are assured that you have an engineered piece of flooring and not the solid type.
