Different Types Of Wood Flooring
Flooring that's made out of wood is quite popular because of its distinctive look. People just love the classic beauty of wood flooring. Despite this unity in admiration of this type of flooring, however, people are diversified in their wishes on how to obtain it. Actually, this diversity is supported by the fact that there are different classifications of this flooring to choose from.
One of the most popular types is hardwood. This material for flooring is the origin of the beauty and trend that all people admire today. Solid hardwood, naturally, is quite expensive. However, it has proven itself to be quite a great investment. One of the biggest advantages of this flooring material is that it can be sanded and stained according to the whim of the owner. It can actually be refinished so that its look reflects the owner's current taste.
Another advantage is that this material is actually favored by many in terms of real estate sales. When you mention that a house has this type of flooring, people will actually choose it over a place with wall-to-wall carpeting. This may be partially true because this material is actually easy to clean. Yup, you only need to sweep every once in a while or even vacuum and you are done. If you want it really protected though, you might want to grab a few cans of commercial wood cleaners. That will keep your wood flooring looking brand new.
This material is quite expensive. Some people just want the look of hardwood, but not the expense. If you believe that seeing is equal to believing, then laminate wood is for you. This is because to the naked eye, laminated wood is just like a hardwood floor. Actually, it is not even wood at all! It is actually photographs of wood, laminated to resist wear.
This means that laminated wood is actually quite resistant to scratch and wear -if used in light areas. Since it is not made of actual wood, it can also be used in areas which are exposed to a little bit of moisture. No flooding, though - you are going to need ceramic or vinyl for that.
It is quite easy to maintain -just sweep every once in a while to get rid of the dust covering. Also, it is very easy to install. In the past, you had to glue all pieces to each other. Nowadays, however, all you have to do is swipe a wet rag over the sides of the pieces and then lock them into place. They are designed for convenience. One thing though -if laminate wood shows wear, you can't refinish it; you have to replace.
Then there's engineered wood. This is for those of you out there who believe that beauty is skin deep. Engineered wood gives a more convincing illusion than laminate wood flooring. This is because this type of flooring is made up of two pieces: pre-finished hardwood on top and unfinished plywood on bottom. The idea is to reduce the cost of the material and still have the same look.
You can even sand and refinish this material 2 to 3 times if it shows wear.
These are the options you have if you want the beauty of wood flooring. Depending on your choice or financial capability, each material is quite good.
